Welcome to Withington

Withington is about four miles south of the city centre. It is east of Princess Road and south of Wilbraham Road, within easy reach of other suburban centres like Chorlton and Didsbury. Most council housing is west of Palatine Road. Princess Road is a major route into the city from the M56 and the motorway network. See detailed map

Most Homefinder homes in this area are managed by Southway Housing Trust, a not-for-profit landlord that took ownership of local homes from the City Council in November 2007. Southway are making massive improvements to every home and the local environment.

Living in Withington

Withington is a cosmopolitan neighbourhood with traditional residential family areas alongside younger, vibrant communities. Withington village is a thriving centre, with a good range of shops, bars, restaurants and banks. There is a library, post office, citizens advice bureau and other amenities. There is excellent public transport to the city centre and other parts of south Manchester along the main roads, although some parts are a fair walking distance from these routes. Public transport links would be even better if the Metrolink tram system is extended down Princess Road past nearby Withington hospital. Withington leisure centre on Burton Road has a swimming pool, fitness suite, and other activities like keep-fit, sauna and karate. Old Moat park on Rippingham Road has a playground, kickabout area and bowls. Hough End playing fields, just over Princess Road provides a large area of open green space - with football pitches, tennis courts and other sports facilities. There is a community centre in the middle of the estate. See detailed map
