Poundswick is about nine miles south of the city centre. It is east of the M56 motorway, north of Simonsway. It is close to Manchester airport and Wythenshawe centre. There's good access to the motorway network, and other areas of south Manchester and Cheshire. The M56 leads straight onto Princess Parkway, a major route into the city centre. See detailed map.

Living in Poundswick

Most homes in Poundswick are rented from Willow Park Housing Trust, a not-for-profit organisation that took over the housing from the city council in 1999. Willow Park has made big improvements to all local homes, the facilities and the environment.

Poundswick is very close to the recently-improved Wythenshawe civic shopping centre, with its food hall and market. The centre also includes the Wythenshawe Forum. The centre also includes the Wythenshawe Forum, a modern, welcoming, safe and accessible building at the heart of community life; the place to come for leisure, learning and childcare. It includes a swimming pool, gym, sports hall and fitness centre, health centre, children's nursery and job centre. The modern Forum library has all the latest facilities to give local people instant access to employment and learning opportunities.

There are regular buses to the city centre. Public transport would be even better if the Metrolink tram system is extended to the nearby airport.

There is a range of job opportunities at the rapidly-developing international airport, with 250 companies based there. As the airport expands it offers other employment in construction and hotels. The airport is keen to employ more local people as it grows.

It’s just over a mile to Wythenshawe park - one of the biggest and best in the city! There's a horticultural centre, pets corner, crazy golf, horse riding, bowling greens, pitch and putt, tennis courts an athletics track, football pitches and much more. More locally, there are parks at Kirkup Gardens just over Simonsway and at Haveley circle in nearby Benchill.

The community centre on Benchill Road in nearby Benchill is a base for various groups and activities including learning courses, employment advice, an out of school club, and playschemes.
