In October 2006 all council homes transferred to a new not-for-profit landlord - Parkway Green Housing Trust. This new company will make massive improvements to every home and to the local environment.
Living in Northern Moor
There are small shopping parades at Sale Circle, Button Lane and Moorcroft Road, and a much wider range of shops (including two supermarkets) and amenities in Northenden centre - walking distance from the eastern side of Northern Moor. The west side of the area is not far from the large Tesco supermarket on Altrincham Road, and the Habitat store on Southmoor Road. The eastern side also benefits from good transport links to the city centre, Sale, Altrincham and the airport along Princess Parkway or Palatine Road. An extension to the Metrolink tram system would greatly improve the situation. It would bring city-centre shopping, entertainment and leisure facilities within easier reach, and open up more employment opportunities too.
The nearest indoor leisure facilities are at the Wythenshawe Forum centre. The Forum is a modern, welcoming, safe and accessible building at the heart of community life - the place to come for leisure, learning and childcare. It has indoor leisure facilities including a swimming pool, gym, sports hall and fitness centre. There's a health centre, children's nursery, and a job centre. The refurbished Forum library has all the very latest facilities to give local people instant access to employment and learning opportunities
There's a local library in the middle of Northern Moor at Rack House Primary School, Yarmouth Drive. Local facilities for youngsters include the Norbrook youth club. Northern Moor is next to Wythenshawe park - one of the biggest and best in the city! There's a horticultural centre, pets corner, crazy golf, horse riding, bowling greens, pitch and putt, tennis courts an athletics track, football pitches and much more. It hosts the Manchester Show in May, Family Fundays throughout the summer, and an annual firework and bonfire extravaganza. There is a children's play park on Southwick Road, and playing fields, open meadows and walks in the Mersey valley on the other side of the motorway (over footbridge or track underneath).
