Northenden is about seven miles south of the City centre. It is south of M63 motorway and east of Princess Parkway - so there's good access to Manchester Airport and the motorway network to other areas of south Manchester and Cheshire. See detailed map
In October 2006 all council homes transferred to a new not-for-profit landlord - Parkway Green Housing Trust. This new company will make massive improvements to every home and to the local environment.
Living in Northenden
Northenden village is a thriving centre, with a good range of shops, bars, restaurants and banks. There is a library, post office, and other amenities. There is excellent public transport with regular buses to the city centre, the airport and other parts of south Manchester. Didsbury village with its extensive shopping and leisure facilities, is about a mile and a half away.
The nearest indoor leisure facilities are at Wythenshawe Forum centre (two miles). The Forum centre is a modern, welcoming, safe and accessible building at the heart of community life - the place to come for leisure, learning and childcare. It has indoor leisure facilities including a swimming pool, gym, sports hall and fitness centre. There's a health centre, children's nursery, and a job centre. The refurbished Forum library has all the very latest facilities to give local people instant access to employment and learning opportunities.
Wythenshawe park - one of the biggest and best in the city - is just over Princess Parkway. There's a horticultural centre, pets corner, crazy golf, horse riding, bowling greens, pitch and putt, tennis courts an athletics track, football pitches and much more. There are small parks in Northenden itself - on Homewood Road and Kenworthy Lane. There are playing fields, open meadows and walks in the Mersey valley on the other side of the motorway (reached by footpath). The walk to Didsbury goes through one of three local golf courses. Learning in Northenden
There are two primary schools in Northenden - St. Wilfreds CofE school (on Royle Green Road) and Northenden Primary on Bazley Road. The nearest Catholic primary school is St Aidans school on Rackhouse Road in neighbouring Northern Moor. The nearest secondary schools are Brookway High school (on Moor Road in Brooklands) or St. Pauls Catholic High School (on Firbank Road, Newall Green). Some Northenden children also go to Parrswood High school in East Didsbury.

Northenden has a mixture of housing. Most Parkway Green homes are west of Kenworthy Lane, and around Royle Green Road. There are 120 other housing association homes.
