Newall Green is about eight miles south of the city centre. It is between the M56 motorway and Wythenshawe hospital, south of Hollyhedge Road. There's good access to the motorway network, Manchester Airport and other areas of south Manchester and Cheshire. See detailed map
In October 2006 all council homes transferred to a new not-for-profit landlord - Parkway Green Housing Trust. This new company will make massive improvements to every home and to the local environment.
Living in Newall Green
There is a small shopping parade on Greenbrow Road, and a large Tesco supermarket on Altrincham Road about a mile away. Timperley Village shopping centre is just over a mile away, and there is a shopping centre, food hall and market at Wythenshawe civic centre on the other side of the motorway. There are regular buses from the city centre to the hospital, although public transport is not so accessible away from main roads. An extension to the Metrolink tram system could bring jobs in the city centre and other areas in reach, and improve access to Wythenshawe Forum.
The Forum centre is a modern, welcoming, safe and accessible building at the heart of community life - the place to come for leisure, learning and childcare. It has indoor leisure facilities including a swimming pool, gym, sports hall and fitness centre. There's a health centre, children's nursery, and a job centre. The refurbished Forum library has all the very latest facilities to give local people instant access to employment and learning opportunities.
There are sports pitches and a playground at Rodger's park on Firbank Road, and it's only a mile or so to the sporting and leisure facilities of Wythenshawe park - one of the biggest and best in the city! There is farmland and walks in the Cheshire countryside south of the estate. See detailed map
Learning in Newall Green
Newall Green is handy for schools for all ages. There are two primary schools - St Peters Catholic school (on Firbank Road) and Newall Green school (on Firbank Road). Older children usually go to Newall Green High School (on Greenbrow Road) or St. Pauls Catholic High School (on Firbank Road). There's a junior youth club for 8-14 year olds on Scout Drive.

Housing in Newall Green
There are some areas of privately owned housing, but most Newall Green homes are rented from Manchester City Council, or are former-council homes that have been bought by the tenants. There are 1,300 Parkway Green homes council homes here - mostly built in the 1950s. Nearly 1,000 of them are two or three bedroom houses. There are also 300 flats in small blocks and 100 bungalows.
