Merseybank it is about four miles south of the city centre - between the popular areas of Chorlton and Didsbury. On the west side of Princess Road between Barlow Moor Road and the river Mersey. Princess Road is a major route into the city from the M56 and the motorway network. See detailed map
Following a vote by local people, council housing in this area transfers to a new not-for-profit landlord, Southway Housing Trust, in November 2007. Southway will make massive improvements to every home and the local environment.
Living in Merseybank
Although there are few shops in Merseybank itself, it is about one and a half miles to Chorlton centre, and a similar distance to Didsbury village. Both Chorlton and Didsbury have large supermarkets and a wide range of smaller shops, a choice of bars, restaurants, as well as banks, post office and library. There are more bars, restaurants, and shops on Burton Road in nearby Withington. Merseybank has its own local library, community centre, and doctor's surgery.
The area is in line for a huge boost with plans to bring vital community facilities and key services under one roof. It will be the place to come for: a new, modern library with instant access to all council services; a community centre; a creche and other services for children and families; adult education and training courses; daycare facilities for people with learning disabilities; an advice centre; a new doctors' surgery; and a drop-in healthcentre.
There are very frequent buses along Barlow Moor Road from Didsbury to the centre of Chorlton, the city centre and the university, and plenty of buses along Princess Road to the city centre and to Wythenshawe and the airport. It's a short walk to Chorlton park which has bowls, a children's play area, tennis courts and football pitches. The park hosts a variety of events like fundays, festivals and fairs. There is a youth club and community play centre there too. There are more pitches and tennis courts at Merseybank playing fields on the other side of Princess Parkway. There are country walks and cycle paths practically on the doorstep along the nearby Mersey Valley, and playgrounds, fishing and water sports at Chorlton water park. Learning in Merseybank
There are two local secondary schools - Chorlton High and Thomas Aquinas Catholic school. Both schools have enjoyed major investment to further boost their popularity and bring modern facilities to the local community. The local primary schools are Barlow Hall (Darley Avenue), Cavendish (Cavendish Road, West Didsbury) and St Ambrose (Princess Road) with others (including a Catholic school) in Chorlton.

Housing in Merseybank
The wider Chorlton and West Didsbury area has a healthy mix of housing - with plenty of owner-occupied homes, private renting and public housing. Most homes in Merseybank are rented from the Southway Housing Trust, or ex-council homes that were bought by their tenants. There are near to 500 Southway Housing Trust homes here - 350 are three-bed houses, and 130 flats in small blocks - mostly built in the 1930s. There are a few bungalows too.
