Welcome to Crossacres

Crossacres is about nine miles south of the city centre. It’s a mile south east of the M56 motorway, between Crossacres Road and Hollyhedge Road. There's good access to the motorway network, and other areas of south Manchester and Cheshire. The M56 leads straight onto Princess Parkway, a major route into the city centre. See detailed map.

Living in Crossacres

Most homes in Crossacres are rented from Willow Park Housing Trust, a not-for-profit organisation that took over the housing from the city council in 1999. Willow Park has made big improvements to all local homes, the facilities and the environment.

There are local shops on Hollyhedge Road, and a health centre on Brownley Road.  and most homes are less than a mile from the recently-improved Wythenshawe civic shopping centre, with its food hall and market. The centre also includes the Wythenshawe Forum, a modern, welcoming, safe and accessible building at the heart of community life; the place to come for leisure, learning and childcare. It includes a swimming pool, gym, sports hall and fitness centre, health centre, children's nursery and job centre. The modern Forum library has all the latest facilities to give local people instant access to employment and learning opportunities.

There are regular buses to the city centre. Public transport would be even better if the Metrolink tram system is extended to the nearby airport.

There is a range of job opportunities at the rapidly-developing international airport, less than two miles away. As the airport expands it offers other employment in construction and hotels. The airport is keen to employ more local people as it grows.

Crossacres is next to Hollyhedge park where there are football pitches, a bowling club, nature area and children ’s play park. There are summer play sessions and an annual community open day there too. And it’s only about a mile and a half to Wythenshawe park - one of the biggest and best in the city! There's a horticultural centre, pets corner, crazy golf, horse riding, bowling greens, pitch and putt, tennis courts an athletics track, football pitches and much more.
The community centre on Benchill Road in neighbouring Benchill is a base for various groups and activities including learning courses, employment advice, an out of school club, and playschemes.

Learning in Crossacres

Most homes are less than a mile from Parklands High secondary school next to Wythenshawe civic centre. St Paul’s Catholic school is just a little further away, over the motorway (by footbridge) in Newall Green. Younger children can go to Crossacres primary school on Crossacres Road, or St John Fisher Catholic school on Woodhouse Lane on the other side of Brownley Green Road.

Find out more about this area's schools and how well they perform. Go to Manchester Schoolfinder.

There are lots of adult education courses at the Forum centre, and it’s about a mile and a half to the city learning centre on Longley Lane in Sharston. The centre boasts cutting-edge technology and offers a range of computer training courses from beginners to advanced. The Terry Dowling adult learning centre on Brownley Road is just half a mile away. Find out more about adult education.

The Poundswick children’s centre on Poundswick Lane in nearby Brownley Green offers secure childcare for under–fives. Find out more about council-run nurseries in this area. Go to Finding a Children's Centre.
