Welcome to Brunswick

Brunswick, also known as Chorlton on Medlock starts at the Mancunian Way just a few hundred yards south of the city centre. It lies between Upper Brook Street, Plymouth Grove and Ardwick Green. Stockport Road goes through the area, giving good access to south Manchester. The Mancunian Way makes it easy to get to other parts of the city too. See detailed map. (There is another area of Manchester called 'Chorlton' - see Chorlton Park, or Chorlton: Nell Lane).

Local people can look forward to massive improvements after the government awarded over £100 million to invest in making Brunswick a place where people want to live, work and visit. It will be done through a special scheme called a Private Finance Initiative (PFI).

Living in Brunswick

Brunswick is a ten minute walk from Manchester's vibrant city centre, with its employment, leisure and entertainment facilities. There are some local shops and a health centre on Brunswick Street, and more good shopping within easy reach - it's about a mile and a half to the large Asda Supermarket and other shops at Longsight district centre. Longsight market (open four days a week), close to the district centre, is a busy traditional market with a wide range of quality products. There are very frequent buses along Stockport Road into the heart of Manchester, and out to Stockport and Cheshire. The nearby universities and hospitals are major employers.

It's less than a mile to Ardwick leisure centre on Stockport Road where there is indoor bowling, karate, keep fit and five-a-side football. The Pitz five-a-side outdoor soccer centre is close by, and there are other outdoor sports and play facilities on Kincardine Road. There's a playground and formal gardens at Ardwick Green, and playgrounds at Grovesnor Street and Wilson Street. The brand new Manchester Aquatics centre with its Olympic swimming pool, children's pool and water chutes is within walking distance. The Apollo theatre hosts regular concerts by major international stars. The Bushmoor Walk family centre in nearby Ardwick provides excellent nursery and play facilities for local children and offers training and support for parents. See detailed map
