Welcome to Chorlton - Nell Lane

The Nell Lane estate is in the popular Chorlton area - about four miles south of the city centre. It is halfway between Princess Road and Barlow Moor Road. Princess Road is a major route into the city from the M56 and the motorway network. See detailed map

Most Homefinder homes in this area are managed by Southway Housing Trust, a not-for-profit landlord that took ownership of local homes from the City Council in November 2007. Southway are making massive improvements to every home and the local environment.

Living in Nell Lane

Chorlton is a cosmopolitan neighbourhood with traditional residential family areas alongside younger, vibrant communities. There are local shops on nearby Mauldeth Road, and a Safeways supermarket and a wide range of other shops less than a mile away in Chorlton centre. Chorlton has a choice of bars and restaurants, as well as banks, a post office and library. There is one bus route onto Nell Lane itself, but there are very frequent buses along nearby Barlow Moor Road to the centre of Chorlton to the city and university.

The local tenants association is based at a 'community house' on Wintermans Road where local people can get free, friendly help and advice. Chorlton leisure centre has a swimming pool, a fitness centre, sauna and sports hall. Nell Lane is close to Chorlton park which has bowls, a children's play area and football pitches. The park hosts a variety of events like fundays, festivals and fairs. There is a youth club and community play centre there too. The estate backs onto the open land of Hough End fields where there are more pitches, courts and bowling. There are country walks and cycle paths in the nearby Mersey Valley, and fishing and a playground in Chorlton water park across Barlow Moor Road. See detailed map

The local secondary schools, Chorlton High and Thomas Aquinas Catholic school, are both close by. The successful and popular Chorlton Park primary school is around the corner on Barlow Moor/Mauldeth Road junction, with other primary schools (including St John's Catholic school) in Chorlton itself.
