Welcome to Chorlton Park

Chorlton Park housing is in two main areas either side of Barlow Moor road and its junction with Mauldeth Road and Hardy Lane in the popular Chorlton area - about four miles south of the city centre. It's not far from Princess Parkway - a major route into the city from the M56 and the motorway network. See detailed map

Most Homefinder homes in this area are managed by Southway Housing Trust, a not-for-profit landlord that took ownership of local homes from the City Council in November 2007. Southway are making massive improvements to every home and the local environment.

Living in Chorlton Park

Chorlton is a cosmopolitan neighbourhood with traditional residential family areas alongside younger, vibrant communities. There are local shops and a small supermarket on Barlow Moor Road and along Mauldeth Road, and a Safeways supermarket and a variety of other shops less than a mile away in Chorlton centre. Chorlton has a choice of bars and restaurants, as well as banks, a post office and library. There is a community centre on nearby Merseybank Avenue. There are very frequent buses along Barlow Moor Road from Didsbury to the centre of Chorlton, Manchester and the university. The vibrant city centre, with its shopping, leisure and entertainment is just a 15 minute journey.

Nearby Merseybank is in line for a huge boost with a new building that will bring vital community facilities and key services under one roof. It will be the place to come for: a new, modern library with instant access to all council services; a community centre; a creche and other services for children and families; adult education and training courses; daycare facilities for people with learning disabilities; an advice centre; a new doctors' surgery; and a drop-in heath centre.

Chorlton leisure centre has a swimming pool, a fitness centre, sauna and sports hall. Chorlton park in the middle of the area has bowls, a children's play area, tennis courts and football pitches. The park hosts a variety of events like fundays, festivals and fairs. There is a youth club and community play centre there too. There are more pitches, courts and bowling at Houghend playing fields off Mauldeth Road. There are country walks and cycle paths in the nearby Mersey Valley, and playgrounds, fishing and water sports at Chorlton water park. Withington hospital is just across Princess Road in nearby West Didsbury. See detailed map

The local primary schools are Chorlton Park on the Barlow Moor Road/Mauldeth Road junction, and Barlow Hall on Darley Avenue, with others (including St John's Catholic school) in nearby Chorlton and West Didsbury.
