Cheetwood is a small estate in Cheetham Hill about a mile and a half north of Manchester city centre. It lies north of Elizabeth Street/Queens Road up to Bellott Street. It goes from Cheetham Hill Road on the east, to the border with Salford, just over Waterloo Road in the west. Cheetham Hill Road is a major route from the north into the city. See detailed map.
Living in Cheetwood
Cheetwood is about half a mile from the busy, vibrant, recently-refurbished area of shops, supermarkets, stalls and banks on Cheetham Hill Road. There are cafes and a post office there too. The Abraham Moss centre (Crescent Road, Crumpsall) is just over half a mile away. It has swimming pools, a gymnasium, sauna, squash courts, fitness suite, football pitches, tennis courts, cricket area, sunbeds, steam room and programmed activities like aerobics, gymnastics, karate, badminton, basketball, junior clubs and much more. There is a theatre with regular plays and concerts, and a modern library there too. The Bignor Street recreation ground in the middle of Cheetwood has a playground, kickabout area, basketball and open spaces. The Cheetham youth action project is based there too.
Manchester Fort Shopping Park, at the junction of Cheetham Hill Road and Queens Road, offers high quality shopping and plenty of employment for local people.
There is good public transport, with regular buses down Cheetham Hill Road - the vibrant city centre, with its shops, entertainment and leisure facilities is just a few minutes journey. The northern side of Cheetwood is just half a mile from Woodlands Road Metrolink station in neighbouring Crumpsall - there are frequent, speedy trams between Bury and Manchester city centre. The trams bring shopping, leisure and employment opportunities within easy reach. It's just two miles to Heaton Park - one of the biggest city parks Europe! It has historical buildings and a wide range of leisure and sporting activities set in rolling land and woods. It stages the Manchester Show North, Fundays and family events. Learning in Cheetwood
Cheetwood has two primary schools - St Chads Catholic school on Balmfield Street, and Cheetwood school on Waterloo Road. The nearest secondary schools are in nearby Crumpsall - at Abraham Moss on Crescent Road (just over half a mile) and King David High school on Eaton Road (about a mile).

Housing in Cheetwood
Almost every home in Cheetwood is rented from the City Council. They are all managed by Northwards Housing. There are about 360 homes - most of them are houses (up to four bedrooms). There are also flats in small blocks, and a handful of bungalows. Most of the homes were built in the 1980s. See detailed map.
Northwards Housing has a £130 million improvement plan that will bring all homes, and local environments, up to decent modern standards by 2010. Every Northwards home will benefit from some of this work by 2008.
