Housing in Charlestown
There are privately owned homes near Booth Hall children's hospital and along Victoria Avenue. More private homes are being built, and are proving popular. There are about 1,400 council homes in Charlestown - all managed by Northwards Housing. About half of these are in several multi-storey blocks just off Victoria Avenue. The rest are two-and three-bedroom houses (400), flats in small blocks (240) and bungalows(30) - mostly built in the 1930s. It's generally a stable residential area with demand for most of the housing. Many of the houses are benefiting from refurbishment, work, and extra investment in the multi-storey blocks is making those homes more popular too. Many flats have new bathrooms, new kitchens, uPVC windows, new gas central heating and upgraded balconies. See detailed map
Northwards Housing has a £130 million improvement plan that will bring all homes, and local environments, up to decent modern standards by 2010. Every Northwards home will benefit from some of this work by 2008.
