Burnage West is about four miles south of the city centre.
It lies mostly to the west of Kingsway between Moseley Road, Fallowfield
in the north and the Parrswood area of East Didsbury in the south. (There
are some homes on the eastern side of Kingsway too). It's within easy
reach of other suburban centres like Withington and Stockport. Kingsway
is a major route into the city from Cheshire and South Manchester. See

Most Homefinder homes in this area are managed by Southway Housing Trust, a not-for-profit landlord that took ownership of local homes from the City Council in November 2007. Southway are making massive improvements to every home and the local environment.
Living in Burnage West
There are a few local shops around Mauldeth Road, most homes on the west side of Kingsway are within easy reach of nearby Withington village where there's a good range of shops, bars, restaurants and banks. There's a library there, a post office, citizens advice bureau and other amenities. For people living on the east side of Kingsway, Burnage Lane has small local shops, a health centre and a thriving community centre with group activities nearly every day. Didsbury village, and the large Tesco supermarket at East Didsbury are close by too. Local shopping is due for a big boost with Tesco planning a new store on Lane End Road near Burnage station.
There is excellent public transport to the city centre and other parts of south Manchester, with frequent buses along Kingsway. There are two train stations (Burnage and Mauldeth Road) with regular trains to the city centre and to Wilmslow and the airport. The nearest indoor sports facility is Withington leisure centre on Burton Road - it has a swimming pool, fitness suite, and other activities like sauna and karate. The Parrswood sports, leisure and cinema complex is about a mile down Kingsway. There are lots of outdoor leisure facilities in Burnage - with the large Fog Lane park in the south of the area (football pitches, 5-a-side, playground, tennis, basketball and wildflower area), Ladybarn park in the centre (bowls, 5-a-side, basketball and youth club), and Kingswood park in the north (5-a-side and basketball). Burnage cricket club (on Mauldeth Road) and Burnage Rugby club (based at Varley Park in nearby Heaton Mersey) offer more sporting and recreational opportunities for local people. Learning in Burnage West
There's a good choice of secondary schools in and around the area. Boys can go to Burnage High school on Burnage Lane, and girls can go to Levenshulme High school (both on the eastern side of Kingsway). But most local children go to either Parrswood High school on Kingsway, or to Barlow Catholic High school in Didsbury. There are plenty of options for younger children too, with Ladybarn Primary school on Briarfield Road, Mauldeth Road primary on Mauldeth Road, Green End school on Green End Road (on the east side of Kingsway), St. Cuthbert's Catholic school on Heycroft Road (towards Withington) and St. Bernard's Catholic school on Burnage Lane (on the east side of Kingsway).

There is a children's centre on Bridgelea Road in nearby Withington village, but most other facilities for pre-school children are on the eastern side of Kingsway where there are five adult and toddler groups, and a children's centre on Broadhill Road.

Housing in Burnage West
The wider Burnage area has a mix of housing, with owner-occupied homes, public housing, and plenty of private renting in neighbouring Withington. There are about 1,000 Southway Housing Trust homes - mostly built in the 1930s. There are 650 two or three bedroom houses. Most of the other homes are flats in small blocks. There are about 50 bungalows too. It's a very popular area with a settled community. There's a very high demand for most homes. See detailed map
