Welcome to Burnage East

Burnage East is about four miles south of the city centre. It lies to the east of Kingsway between Grangethorpe Road in the north, and Lane End Road in the south. (Some homes nearest Kingsway fall into neighbouring Burnage West). It's within easy reach of other suburban centres like Withington and Stockport. Kingsway is a major route into the city from Cheshire and South Manchester. See detailed map

Most Homefinder homes in this area are managed by Southway Housing Trust, a not-for-profit landlord that took ownership of local homes from the City Council in November 2007. Southway are making massive improvements to every home and the local environment.

Living in Burnage East

Burnage Lane has small local shops, a library, health centre and a thriving community centre with group activities nearly every day. Local shopping is due for a big boost with Tesco planning a new store on Lane End Road near Burnage station. It's not too far to Withington village where there's more shops, bars, restaurants and banks. All the amenities of Didsbury village, and the large Tesco supermarket at East Didsbury are close by too.

There is excellent public transport to the city centre and other parts of south Manchester, with frequent buses along Kingsway. There are two train stations just over Kingsway (Burnage and Mauldeth Road) with regular trains to the city and to Wilmslow and the airport. The local 'Ring and Ride' service helps people get about if they have difficulty using buses. The nearest indoor sports facility is the Priestnall sports centre in neighbouring Heaton Mersey, or Withington leisure centre on Burton Road, near Withington village. The Parrswood sports, leisure and cinema complex is about a mile down Kingsway.

Cringle Fields Park on Errwood Road has nine football pitches, plus bowls, basketball and 5-a-side. A new children's playground is in the pipeline. There are other good parks on the other side of Kingsway - with the large Fog Lane park in the south of the area (football pitches, 5-a-side, playground, tennis, basketball and wildflower area), and Ladybarn park in the north (bowls, 5-a-side, basketball and youth club). The eastern parts of the estate back on to the open spaces of Heaton Moor golf course. Burnage cricket club (on Mauldeth Road) and Burnage Rugby club (based at Varley Park in nearby Heaton Mersey) offer more sporting and recreational opportunities for local people. The 'Burnage Multi Agency Group' runs a youth scheme for 13 to 18 year olds, and has a full time youth worker. See detailed map.
