Area guide: Newton Heath
Newton Heath is about three miles north-east of the city centre,
on the south side of Oldham Road - a major route into Manchester from
Lancashire.
Living in Newton Heath
Most homes are within walking distance of Oldham Road where theres a
variety of shops, supermarkets and a local precinct. Other good shops are
just a short bus ride away in Failsworth, and there are frequent buses down
Oldham Road to the vibrant city centre, with its shopping, leisure and
entertainment.
Theres a train station at Dean Lane (just over Oldham Road) with regular
trains to Manchester and Oldham. An extension to the Metrolink system will
soon bring fast and frequent trams to the area with a direct line between
Rochdale and the city centre.
It's only a mile from the centre of Newton Heath to the City of
Manchester stadium and the other sporting and recreational facilities of
Sportcity.
