Area guide: Moss Side
Moss Side is just a mile and a half south of the city centre,
mostly on the west side of Princess Road - a major route between the city
centre and the airport and motorway network.
Living in Moss Side
Theres an Asda superstore on Princess Road, while nearby Hulme market has
a selection of food and craft stalls.
Local employers like the two breweries, and firms at Manchester Science
park, Greenheys business centre, and Birley Fields commercial park are
committed to employing local people.
More than 400 new homes - from large family houses to flats - are being
built on the site of the former Manchester City stadium, Maine Road, to
improve housing quality and choice, and attract new people to the area.
There are plans for new facilities, including a modern health centre too.
There are regular buses along Princess Road to the city and out to the
airport. The vibrant city centre, with its employment, leisure and
entertainment facilities is just a few minutes journey. It's just a mile to
the university and major hospitals on Wilmslow Road.
Alexandra Park offers greenery and space, while the Millennium Powerhouse
building, on Raby Street is a modern recreational, sporting and education
facility for local youngsters.
