Area guide: Charlestown
Charlestown is about five miles north of the city centre, on
the south side of Victoria Avenue, next to Boggart Hole Clough. Its
close to the M60 motorway - so there's good access to other parts of the
city and the north west.
Living in Charlestown
Charlestown is mostly residential area, but theres a small parade of
shops, including a post office and citizen's advice bureau, and a health
centre on Charlestown Road. There are more shops on Victoria Avenue/Hollinwood
Avenue, and a supermarket on the Rochdale Road/Victoria Avenue
crossroads less than a mile away.
There are regular buses along Victoria Avenue, and Rochdale Road to
the city centre, Middleton (where there are more shops and local
facilities) and all the leisure and sporting activities at Heaton Park.
Boggart Hole Clough is one of Manchester's largest parks, with bowls,
fishing, boating, football pitches, playground, running track,
multicourts and woodland walks.
